An alternative approach has been tried in South Lanarkshire, where some two- and three-bedroom houses have been converted into separate apartments (rooms, common areas, for example. B kitchen). The idea was that each person was responsible for their communal tax and rent, and that individuals could go more easily. Occupancy contracts were used instead of leases. Using a joint lease agreement under the Short Scottish Secure Tenancy (SSST), this agreement has been in place since September 2017. The support of the DWP, especially the local HB teams, was very important to make it a success. They were happy to agree on the same distribution for hb support. How could this work in the CPU? The answer: we don`t know. DWP does not foresee a barrier, but it has not yet been tested. The two people in this project went from unemployment to housing society. The Council also ensured that each dwelling was registered separately, so that each person was responsible for the municipal tax, although this increases the total tax debt of the Council.
